Galway is known as the City of the Tribes but it could also be known as the City of Festivals. It feels like every week of the year Galway has another brilliant celebration taking place. Let’s have a quick look at a few of the upcoming Galway Festivals and events this Autumn.

GALWAY INTERNATIONAL OYSTER & SEAFOOD FESTIVAL
Right on our own doorstep, we have an amazing celebration of some of the worlds best seafood. Over the last weekend of September, Galway City celebrates the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival, the world’s longest running Oyster Festival.
Throughout the Irish food festival, there will be lots of tantalising events for all to enjoy; seafood trails, oyster opening (shucking) championships including the Oyster ‘Olympics’ or World Oyster Opening Championship, foodie talks & tasting events in some of Galway’s best restaurants, The Festival Marquee, a Mardi Gras style Gala Event along with family activities, live music, cooking demonstrations and more.
THE GALWAY RACES – AUTUMN RACING
The iconic Galway Races have two Autumn meets in 2019 with the first kicking off on September 16th a two day meet followed by the very popular October Festival from the 26th to 28th, featuring more top-class racing and a wonderful fundraiser in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness.
The inaugural “Race in Pink” in 2018 raised €95000. The Autumn schedule is on the Autumn Bank Holiday weekend and includes seven top class races. Racegoers can enjoy the usual great facilities in the enclosure such as tasty food, bar facilities, on course bookmakers, the big screen, live music as well as top class racing.
BABORÓ CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL
Ireland’s premier international arts festival for children and families runs in Galway city and county in mid October, featuring Theatre, Dance, Literature, Music, Puppetry, Workshops and Visual Art for all ages. See the magic of well-known stories come to dazzling life on the stage. Special treats are also in store for everyone with beautiful exhibitions, readings and workshops. Come to Galway to experience this delightful Festival and explore this beautiful family-friendly city.
Now in it’s 23rd year, Baboró is Ireland’s flagship international arts festival devoted exclusively to children and families. This annual week-long festival of world-class creative arts features some of the best Irish and International artists and hosts creative engagement workshops for school children and families. The festival includes outreach programmes for children and families living in County Galway, Professional Development industry events.
Vodafone Comedy Carnival
Who’s doesn’t like a good laugh? We love the craic here in Galway but it peaks annually in October when some of the funniest people in the land descend on the city. Over the years some of the top names in Galway have preformed at this brilliant festival. The gigs take place all over the city from the Spiegeltent in Eyre Square to Leisureland and lots of venues in between. Some of the top names taking part this year include Bill Bailey, John Bishop, Ross Noble, Jason Byrne, Reginald D Hunter, Ardal O’ Hanlon, Omid Djalili, Rich Hall and Shappi Khorsandi. Macnas Hallowe’en Parade
The annual Hallowe’en parade by Macnas (who celebrate their 33rd anniversary this year), is expected to take place on Sunday 27th October 2019 at approximately 5.30pm.
The narrative theme of this years parade is yet to be confirm but expect signature Macnas giant creations and sculptural images, pyrotechnics, bespoke costumes, and epic performances to live and original music. Street-hopping, traffic-stopping excitement and chaos will orchestrated by the hundreds of performers from the Macnas Young Ensemble, Youth Ballet West, the Macnas Youth Drummers, The Hit Machine and the Public participation programme. The parade passes directly past the front door of the hotel so there’s no excuse for missing it!
